About Me
I was born and raised in Iqaluit, Nunavut, which is where I have spent a majority of my adult life. I have an honours Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Counselling from the University of Ottawa.
I currently reside in Iqaluit and frequently travel to southern Canada to participate in professional development and training opportunities. This is part of my commitment to provide up-to-date, ‘best practice’ counselling and psychological services to Nunavummiut. My commitment to providing quality care also includes paying careful attention in each counselling moment and building upon every individual’s (and couples’) strengths, values and unique personal and cultural identities.
I believe that every one of us seeks to live a meaningful life. I also believe that, at some point in our lives, we all need help to get back on track. There are many obstacles (both from within ourselves and from our environment) that can make us feel stuck, scared, frustrated or helpless. It is my goal to provide you with a safe, trusting and compassionate counselling environment, and to use my knowledge, education and skills to help you with the changes you wish to make.
I make every effort to listen carefully and deeply understand your personal story: thoughts, feelings and experiences. In doing so, it is my hope that I will be able to provide a space where you feel safe, heard and important, and where you will be able to explore the areas of your life that you feel need attention.
I am personally committed to my own journey of positive growth.
I believe that this is important in providing ethical and effective counselling services and I hope this is reflected in my practice.
