Individual Therapy

I offer individual therapy based on a strong client-counsellor relationship. This means that, above all, I value empathy, positive regard and genuineness in our relationship. Research shows that this Person-Centered counselling approach is important for successful therapy.

This strong, positive relationship is also important in Emotion-Focused Therapy, a counselling approach primarily developed by Dr. Les Greenberg. In Emotion-Focused Therapy, I help you to identify, experience and express your emotions so that you can tolerate, make meaning of, and transform them. The idea is that all emotions, even difficult ones, have adaptive qualities that, when skillfully worked with, can lead to more positive feelings overall, improved self-esteem and relationships, and healing from past wounds or trauma.

Everyone who comes to therapy is unique, so I use many different counselling techniques in my practice. In general, I can help you to identify and change unhelpful thoughts and personal stories that negatively impact how you feel about yourself, others, and the world. I also use psychological education, mindfulness and meditation, to help build awareness and create positive change in your life.

I am also trained in EMDR, a method highly recommended and proven to treat the impacts of trauma. It also helps with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, self-esteem and works effectively with children and adolescents.

Couples Therapy

In my work with couples, I use an approach called Emotionally-Focused Therapy for couples. I was trained in this method by Dr. Sue Johnson, who is a world authority and co-developed this counselling model. Through her extensive research, she has found this is one of the most effective approaches to couples therapy. She has also proven that it is successful across different cultures and sexual orientations.

This approach provides a guide through couples distress that avoids blame and helps to strengthen the relationship bond. This process, experienced in the safety of the therapy room, promotes new ways of communicating that help to improve feelings of security in the couple and creates lasting relationship change.
